Nilaja Sun’s dramatic play No Child comes to the Creative Alliance this weekend, offering a critical look at the state of the American school system. Performances are Friday (05.15) and Saturday (05.16) at 8 o’clock, with panel discussions featuring local teachers and activists to follow. In the production Ageless Grace, dancers over 40 will take the stage as part of a series of spring dance events from Dance Baltimore. The show will feature Tapsichore, Interant Dance Theater, Janaea Rose Lyn, The Golden Rockettes, Spring Moving Dance Ministry, and New Era Dance Company. Also in store: a special appearance by “The Story Dancer,” Maria Broom. The show gets underway Saturday evening (05.16) at 7 o’clock, and it’s happening at Theatre Project, 45 West Preston Street. Caleb Stine performs at the Chesapeake Arts Center tomorrow as a part of the Irish Traditional Music series. He’ll be joined by a host of other Baltimore musicians, including Jim Eagan, Danny Noveck, and Dan Isaacson, all mixing traditional and contemporary styles. The show happens Saturday evening (05.16), 8 o’clock, at the Chesapeake Arts Center Studio “194 Theatre.” That’s at 194 Hammond’s Lane in Brooklyn Park. New York-based media artist Bruce McClure makes his Baltimore debut tomorrow evening, performing two half-hour live projector performances, working with 16mm projectors, film loops, guitar pedals, and a handmade soundboard. This improvisational audio-visual experience begins at 8 o’clock Saturday night (05.16) at The Loft at Load of Fun. That’s at 120 West North Avenue, and more information is at www.loadoffun.net.

And looking ahead a bit, The Soul Collector will premiere next Wednesday at the Everyman Theatre. This comedy is written David Emerson Toney and directed by Jennifer L. Nelson, and the story revolves around an uncle and nephew team of garbage men. As they make their rounds, they scour the trash in hopes of finding things worth selling in order to finance their dreams. Previews start Wednesday evening, May 20th at 7:30, and the show runs through June 21st. The Everyman is located at 1727 North Charles Street.
