This weekend the Creative Alliance hosts Fire in the Belly, a series of performances that will pair members of the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s with contemporary artists. Friday night (09.26) The Last Poets will be joined by the 5th L, Olu Butterfly and others for an evening of dance, music and a discussion about the 1968 riots in Baltimore. Saturday night (09.27) a short reading by playwright, poet and activist Sonia Sanchez will be paired with short plays by Bashi Rose and members of the Maryland Correctional Training Center’s D.R.A.M.A. group. Celebrate Fall in the City all day Saturday (09.27) at the Lauraville Festival in Herring Run Park. There’ll be arts and crafts for the whole family, music by the Bobwhites, and performances by the Black Cherry Puppet Theatre. You can also sample food from local restaurants, wine from Chameleon Wine Cellars, beer from the Brewer’s Art, and coffee by Zeke’s, and the festival runs from 11am to 6 pm in the park near the intersection of Parkside and Harford Road.
Saturday night (09.27) at the Fish Head Cantina the Baltimore Blues Society hosts Severn Records 10th Anniversary Blues & BBQ. The all-day, all-night festival will feature roots music from Sugar Ray & the Bluetones, Lou Pride, All Mighty Senators and more. Doors open at 2pm and the Fish Head Cantina is located at 4802 Benson Avenue in Arbutus.
