This weekend, the 2008 African American Heritage Festival sets up camp in the outdoor lots around M & T Bank Stadium for a free, three-day long celebration. National acts like R & B diva Lil’ Mo and American Idol star Fantasia share the main stage with local notables Fertile Ground and the 5th L. In addition to the musical acts, there’ll be a kids area, a dance competition, food, drink, and a health and wellness outreach center. It all kicks off this Friday evening (06.27) and runs through Sunday (06.29) at 1101 Russel Street, and you can find out more details at 410.261.7283 or online at: www.aahf.net
Here’s an interesting art show that’s opening up next week: artist Gil Jawetz is a very skilled oil painter – he also happens to really adore dogs. He always donates a portion of his proceeds to animal shelters and rescue organizations, and his favorite subjects for his portraits… dogs, of course. Jawetz’ upcoming exhibition is (appropriately) located at the Yellow Dog Tavern at 700 South Potomac Street in Baltimore. The show opens next Tuesday July 1st, and runs through July 28th, and you can check out images of some of Javetz’ paintings online at: www.buskerdog.com
