Friday (04.18.08) the 14 Karat Cabaret presents Shattered Wig Night, featuring Justin Sirois reading from his new book of poetry Secondary Sound… Reading along with Justin will be Blaster Al Ackerman and novelist Michael Kimball. Also on the Shattered Wig bill: Music from the ultra-literary Appalachian group, Old Songs… The evening begins at 9pm and the 14 Karat Cabaret is at 218 West Saratoga Street in Baltimore. The Third Space is on display at UMBC’s Center for Art Design and Visual Culture. This video installation by artist Sujan Shrestha delivers interviews with Tibetans and Chinese people projected on opposing walls. The Third Space is designed as a sanctuary where opposing arguments can be freely communicated… This piece is part of the MFA Thesis show, which runs through April 26th. The gallery is in the Fine Arts Building located at 1000 Hilltop Circle, on the UMBC Campus. For gallery hours, visit www.umbc.edu.

The Strand Theater Company is opening its doors for the first time Sunday (04.20.08). They’ll be entertaining visitors with music from King Cloud and Baby Aspirin, performances by BIG Improv, Single Carrot Theater, and Love the Poet… Complete with refreshments compliments of Zodiac Restaurant, this is a free event and it’s happening Sunday, April 20th from 4-7pm. The Strand Theater is at 1823 Charles Street in Baltimore.

The Unchained Talent theater program at Lake Clifton High School proudly presents an original hip-hop musical, Concrete Jungle. Written by Antonio Briggs and his fellow students, Concrete Jungle portrays youth facing struggles like teen pregnancy and drug addiction. The production will run Friday (04.18.08) and next Friday (04.25.08) at 7pm. Lake Clifton High School is at 2801 St. Lo Drive and the show is free.
