In the communal spirit of Baltimore’s art scene, animator Christine Sajecki and writer Joseph Young have gathered a diverse team of fellow artists to work on a project called Deep Falls. Using the city itself as source material, Deep Falls explores a historic stretch of lower Falls Road in Baltimore City. Deep Falls is a multi-media extravaganza with works in paint, ink, and sound. It opens Friday evening (02.15.08) at Antreasian Gallery and runs through March 2nd. Antreasian Gallery is at 1111 36th Street in Hampden, and they’re online at www.antreasiangallery.com.

Sunday (02.17), the Charm City Roller Girls All Stars will take on the Ohio Roller Girls at the 5th Regiment Armory in West Baltimore. Doors open at 3pm and the bout starts at 4pm. For more information, roller derby enthusiasts can check out www.charmcityrollergirls.com.

Regular listeners to our program might remember hearing from Baltimore hip hop performer Abrock. Abrock is performing at the Turntable Club Saturday, Feb.16th with JuggaKnots from NYC and some other special guests. The Peabody Chamber Opera presents the world premiere of The Yellow Wallpaper with music by Catherine Reid and libretto by Judith Lane. The opera is based on a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman written in 1892. The feminist classic describes a woman’s descent into madness as she combats post-partum depression while confined to a bedroom by her husband. Performances are Friday & Saturday, Feb.15th & 16th at 8pm and Sunday, Feb.17th at 3pm at Theatre Project, 45 West Preston Street, in Baltimore. More info is online at www.theatreproject.org.
