  • We come face to face with raccoons, fawns, and bald eagles when we visit Wildlife Rescue Inc, a Baltimore County animal sanctuary that rehabilitates injured and orphaned creatures from all across the state. (Check them out at: www.wildliferescueinc.org. That’s also where you’ll find info about this Saturday’s on-site “Fall Festival” at the shelter.)
  • We talk with writer and publisher William P. Tandy about his latest edition of “Smile Hon: you’re in Baltimore,” a compelling collection of true-life tales called Criminally Yours
  • Benn Ray (of Atomic Books) joins the program to share a reading of one of the stories in the “Criminally Yours” collection – a tale about the ordeal of jury duty
  • In front of a live audience, blogger Liz Richardson recounts her own experience with crime, an event that inspired her to start baring her personal feelings to a world of invisible readers. (Check out Liz Richardson’s blog at: www.lizpointofview.blogspot.com and find out more info on The Stoop at: www.stoopstorytelling.com.)

Friday (09.07.07) the Lo-Fi Social Club re-opens in its new location with a full roster of bands and entertainment, including a CD release party for local indie rockers Squaaks, plus performances by Two if By Sea, Thrushes and others, along with a selection of poster art from Alex Fine and Nolen Strals. The doors open at 8 pm, and The Lo-Fi Social Club is now located at 1825 North Charles Street. For a full list of performers and other upcoming events, visit www.lofisocialclub.com

And for those who don’t get out to clubs so often anymore, (or those whose weekend are planed around the whims, wishes and naps of toddlers), Brady Rymer and The Little Band That Could will be making their Baltimore debut Saturday afternoon (09.08.07) at The Maryland Science Center at the Inner Harbor. Rymer is one of the latest “kids music superstars” in what feels like an increasingly crowded field of performers, but we hear the music really is actually pretty catchy. Showtime is 12 pm, and while you’re there, check out the Animal Grossology exhibit and the Dinosaurs Alive! movie, too …we hear they’re pretty cool as well.

Saturday evening (09.08.07) The Contemporary Museum presents the opening of its latest communication themed exhibit Broadcast. The show explores the ways in which artists have used, manipulated, critiqued and subverted broadcast television and radio since the 1960s. Broadcast features video, sound, photography, and installation work by 11 artists including pieces by Nam June Paik and Christian Jankowski, and the opening reception is from 6 to 8 pm. The Contemporary Museum is located at 100 W. Center Street, and online at www.contemporary.org

On Sunday (09.09.07) the Jewish Museum of Maryland presents the opening of Judy Chicago: Jewish Identity, a retrospective of the multimedia feminist artist and icon. The show features Chicago’s 70’s era explorations of her secular Jewish upbringing and her simultaneous embrace of traditional Jewish values, as well as more recent work dealing with the Holocaust, feminism, and universal peace. The opening reception is from 2 to 4pm in the museum’s Feldman Gallery, and the show runs through December 30th. The Jewish Museum of Maryland is located at 15 Lloyd Street, and you can find them online at www.jewishmuseummd.org
