  • Artist Allyson Smith tours us through her current exhibition of works on display at The Antreasian Gallery, a series of paintings that fuse comic satire and stark honesty to portray the ups and downs of her life as a modern-day lesbian mom and schoolteacher.
  • We’ll also hear a tale of personal transformation told in front of a live audience at the Stoop Storytelling series, by a storyteller who introduces himself as “Asa” – before his hormone treatments, he used to be a she.
  • We’ll get a preview of the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival’s upcoming production of MacBeth, with director Tony Tsendeas and composer Brian Daniloski, who’s better known for his work in Baltimore’s notorious heavy metal band, Meatjack.
  • And we’ll sit down for some music and conversation with singer / songwriter Andy Friedman. When he’s not drawing cartoons for the New Yorker Magazine, he’s writing songs that just might make you laugh to keep from crying.

Friday night (06.29.07), Baltimore’s ‘girl garage art rock’ quartet The Degenerettes take to the stage along with the New York band Uncle Leon and the Alibis and punk ska bands Honey Creeper and Misdirected. Be sure to bring your earplugs and your nitroglycerin pills to this show if you’ve got a weak heart. It’s happening at Mac’s The Club at 525 Eastern Boulevard in Essex, and more details are on the web at www.macstheclub.com.

And if your tastes run in a less-rocky-but-more-groovy direction, you’ll want to know that on Saturday night (06.30.07) tribute will be paid to the legendary Parlaiment Funkadelic. The live tribute to P-Funk comes compliments of the talented Nowchild Nation, and the show is happening Saturday evening at the Creative Alliance’s Patterson Theatre, 3134 Eastern Avenue, and more information is online at www.creativealliance.org.
