You can celebrate the first weekend of spring by spending your Saturday morning (03.24.07) outdoors in the Patuxent River in Laurel. If you’re willing to get a little dirty to help make a cleaner waterway, you can meet up with the Patuxent Riverkeeper to help remove trash and debris from the water. The Patuxent River Clean Up runs from 9AM to noon this Saturday, starting near the Laurel Race Track. For directions, contact Lauren Webster at (301) 249-8200, extension six.

And this Sunday (03.25.07), Towson’s Central Presbyterian Church continues its Sundays at Central Concert Series, this weekend with the Baltimore Symphony Chamber Players… The ensemble features Edward Palanker on clarinet, Phil Munds on horn, Ilya Finkelshteyn on cello, and Mary Woer on piano. This is a free concert, and the church is located at 7308 York Road in Towson. More information is available at www.centralpc.org.

And looking ahead on the calendar to NEXT Friday (03.30.07) – if the phrase “Triple word score” gets your heart racing, you’ll want to join fellow Scrabble enthusiasts at Calvert School for the Sixth Annual Scrabble Fundraiser for Literacy. Everyone is welcome to come and play at either the “competitive” or “social” level, and winners will receive prizes from local retailers and restaurants. The games begin at six o’clock NEXT Friday evening, and all proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Greater Homewood Adult Literacy and ESOL Program. To register, or for more information, call (410) 261-3520.
