  • Baltimore spoken word artist Sir Reigns meditates on the topic of gun violence and an all-too-easy-to-imagine future for himself
  • Producer Aaron Henkin visits South Baltimore’s Curtis Bay neighborhood to meet Catherine Benicewitz. She’s seen the place change quite a bit since she was born there… in 1918

This weekend, the annual Hopkins Film Festival is underway and in full-swing at Shriver Hall on the university’s Homewood campus. Of particular interest is Sunday afternoon’s schedule, which features movies by a cadre of young, local filmmakers. Here’s one to see on the merit of its title alone: The Fashion of the Christ, by Richard Baker, explores which haircut might best suit the messiah if he were to reappear today. More information about The Hopkins Film Festival is online at: www.hopkinsfilmfest.com, or you can call 410 340-4703.

Tonight at Baltimore’s music club The Funk Box, Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and his brother Steven will take the stage to celebrate their Jamaican roots and the musical legacy of their father, reggae hero Bob Marley. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the Funk Box is located downtown at 10 East Cross Street. Tickets and more information are on the web at www.thefunkbox.com, or you can call 410 625-2000.

If you’ve ever wondered whatever became of Screech, the stickly, fashion-impaired geek from the old TV show Saved by the Bell, you’re questions will be answered this weekend at the Improv in Baltimore’s Power Plant Live. Dustin Diamond has put on a few pounds, he’s got a goatee now, and he’s been doing standup comedy for the past five years. He’s in town all weekend, and you can find show times and tickets at www.baltimoreimprov.com or by calling 410 727-8500.

And finally, they’re predicting a lot of rain this weekend, but if you’re willing to brave the elements on Saturday morning, you’ll end up with some nice freebies from Baltimore’s Waverly Market. Pine seedlings and vegetable and flower seeds are being given away as part of Urban Earth Day. You can find the Waverly Farmers’ Market on the 400 block of East 32nd Street — and remember to bring an umbrella.
